A review of Nigeria’s 2026 federal budget reveals that the Bola Tinubu administration has earmarked significant funds for vehicle procurement and related expenses under the State House operations.
According to budget figures contained in the proposed 2026 Appropriation Bill, sent to the National Assembly in December 2025, the presidency plans to spend ₦3.3 billion on the purchase and replacement of vehicles.
In a report ATP NEWS quoted that the sum
includes ₦2.5 billion for the acquisition of new State House operational vehicles and ₦758 million for the replacement of SUVs, such as sport utility and utility vehicles used for official duties. ₦115 million has also been allocated specifically for the purchase of tyres for bullet-proof vehicles, platform trucks, ambulances, and other official vehicles.
The allocation comes amid heightened public scrutiny over government spending priorities at a time of continued economic challenges for many Nigerians. Critics have questioned high vehicle and operational expenditures, especially given broader calls for austerity and fiscal prudence.

” Previous analyses of government spending have already shown large sums spent on tyres and vehicles under the current administration.” According to public payment data reviewed by SaharaReporters, the presidency recorded hundreds of millions of naira on tyre expenditures over short periods in prior years, and billions on vehicle purchases in 2024 alone.
Legislators of the National Assembly are expected to scrutinise these and other line items during the detailed budget review process before final passage.
